Transfer a domain without downtime

2026-09-17

A transfer moves the registrar of record. It does **not** have to move your DNS on day one. 1. At the current registrar: turn off 60-day locks if you just registered or transferred, unlock the domain, and copy the auth / EPP code. 2. In OTA Cloud start a transfer with that code. We submit it to the registry. 3. Approve the FOA (Form of Authorization) email if one arrives. Until you approve, the status stays **waiting for owner**. 4. Keep nameservers where they are until the transfer shows **complete**. Then you can switch DNS from Client Area → Services. Transfers usually take 1–5 days. If nothing moves after two days, resend the approval email or retry with a fresh auth code. Staff can see the same status under Admin → Ops queue. Never change the account email at the losing registrar mid-transfer — FOA goes there.
